He Started.
Ypsilanti, Michigan. Poverty rate over 30%. One of the highest crime rates in the state. This isn't a backdrop, it's the origin. The place that tried to write his ceiling.
He went back to stand in front of it. Not to run from it. Not to erase it. But to prove that a zip code is not a verdict.

The Kid Who Said He'd Make It
Darius James grew up in Ypsilanti, Michigan, a city with a poverty rate north of 30% and one of the highest crime rates in the state. Statistics said he shouldn't make it. He said different. "I remember as a young kid telling my mom that I was gonna be the one to make it out," he says. "I was going to be the one that cracks the code."
8 Years. No Excuses.
Darius served 8 years in the United States Army Reserves. The Army didn't just build discipline, it built a man who knew how to operate under pressure, lead under fire, and show up when it counts. Every lesson learned in uniform translated directly to everything he built after.
Walking Through the Biggest Door
At 19, Darius walked through the doors of Quicken Loans, the largest mortgage lender in the country at the time, with no connections, no safety net, and one obsession: refusing to let where he came from decide where he was going. He didn't just survive, he became one of their top producers.
Rising to the Top
From Quicken Loans, Darius moved through the biggest names in the industry, Loan Depot, Caliber Home Loans, and Home Point Financial, where he rose to Director of Business Development. A decade of grinding, learning, and proving himself at every level.

On June 22, 2021, Darius founded Porch Point Mortgage, one of the country's fastest-growing African American-owned mortgage companies. "Not only to kick in the door," he says, "but to kick in the door and hold it open for others. The next me. The next them."
